Running Epiphany #4080

Idea

Everybody thinks best in the shower, right?!  I’m standing there, mesmerized by the water streams on the glass door, and it hits me!

Wow! I’m not depressed anymore!  Just like that.. I’m a happy person.

My brain starts reminiscing the past weeks events.  Happy moments with my family and friends pour into my mind. Prior to this, my months were filled with holiday stress, running lows, cookie weight gain, etc.  It occurred to me during that time I was focusing on one negative moment after another.  I realized that a happy life is really just about connecting all the happy moments together.

Now it gets deep so stay with me and I’ll try to explain.  Remember .. I’m in the shower, heavy thinking is going on.

So.. now I start to relate this to running.  I have weeks sometimes months that my running is sluggish.  I feel horrible and my times are showing it.  The days go by and I get more and more frustrated.  I have learned by now that with every running low comes a running high and vice versa.  If I have a good week or month I know my body will eventually need to recover.  When I start to hurt and struggle to keep my pace,  this is my body telling me it needs to rest so that I can come back stronger and more fit.  It took years for me to learn and accept this.  (Remembering it is a whole other story! We all know it’s easy to get down on ourselves when we are not doing as well as we think we should be doing.)

Much like life, in running we need to connect those PR times or those good moments so that we can see the big picture! Running lows are a good thing .. they help us recognize when we have amazing runs.  Just like the bad moments in life help us to really appreciate the good ones!

HAPPY LIFE HAPPY RUNNING…
